Pro-Russian authorities in Ukraine’s Lugansk region said Thursday that at least two people have been killed and four others injured in an attack by Ukrainian Armed Forces on the territory, annexed by the Russian government in September.

The pro-Russian Joint Control and Coordination Center has indicated on its Telegram account that the attack took place in the locality of Krinichnoe and accused the Ukrainian forces of using the HIMARS multiple rocket launcher system.

«As a result of the shelling of the locality of Krinichnoe with the use of the US M142 HIMARS, two employees of a mine were killed and four other people were wounded,» the text reads.

Moscow reported the annexation of both Lugansk and neighboring Donetsk and the Kherson and Zaporiyia regions after a series of accession consultations that produced overwhelming results in favor of joining Russia, although they were flatly rejected by the international community, which considers this step illegal.
