Biden stresses that there has been no «red giant wave» in midterm elections

U.S. President Joe Biden has stressed that there has been no «red giant wave» (Republican) in the midterm elections, as predicted by polls and political analysts, and has described Tuesday’s election day as «a good day for democracy».

«The press and the pundits predicted a giant red wave. That didn’t happen. I know you were upset by my obsessive optimism, but I felt good about the whole process,» Biden said in his first assessment of the election. «The American people have spoken. It shows that we are a democracy» and that they voted «with little or no interference,» he added.

Biden has recognized that it is «painful» each one of the seats lost, but has emphasized that his party «has lost fewer seats in the House of Representatives than any Democratic president in the mid-term elections of his first term in the last 40 years».

To the «still frustrated» voters, Biden assured them that he «got the message», cited the main measures undertaken by his Administration and promised that «there will be a clear vision in January, February and March of next year» with new results. «I am optimistic,» he reiterated.

In any case, Biden has expressed his willingness to collaborate with the new Republican congressmen. «I think the American people have made it clear that they also expect Republicans to be willing to work with me,» he argued.

However, he has drawn a red line. «I will not support any Republican proposal that makes inflation worse. I will not backtrack on historic commitments just made on the climate crisis,» he has enumerated.

Finally, Biden addressed his prospects for the 2024 election. «Our intention is to run again. That is our intention. Whatever the outcome of these elections,» he assured. The final decision will be made «early next year».
