Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday mocked Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, using a derogatory nickname against what could be his primary rival to lead the Republican Party for the 2024 presidential election.
During a rally in the state of Pennsylvania, Trump has referred to DeSantis as «Ron DeSanturron», which could be a sign of growing tension between the two potential presidential candidates, as reported by the FOX network.
«We’re winning big in the Republican Party for the nomination like nobody has ever seen before,» Trump has expressed before going through the list of other Republicans who could challenge him in 2024.
«There it is, Trump at 71 percent, Ron DeSanturron at 10 percent,» the former president said as he read the approval numbers of various Republican leaders.
Trump’s comment is the first direct snub against DeSantis since the former president’s political committee announced he would campaign for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio at a rally in Miami on Sunday, while not inviting DeSantis.
Still, DeSantis is considered by many within the Republican Party to be the leading contender in the race for president if Trump does not run.
