Bolsonaro is pressured by his allies to admit defeat to Lula as soon as possible

More than half a day after Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva emerged victorious in Brazil’s elections, the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, still does not recognize the results, while some of his ministers, such as Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos França, are pushing for him to make a public statement, as other international leaders have already done.

A despondent and laconic Bolsonaro, who on Sunday night refused to talk to his allies once his defeat by more than two million votes against Lula was known, has shown himself this Monday, who with his triumph also reaffirms the shift to the left of the Latin American continent, according to information from ‘O Globo’.

After knowing the results, Bolsonaro has withdrawn into himself and has not expressed himself through social networks and has not even conversed as he has done almost every day throughout his mandate with the group of unconditional supporters who usually wait for him at the gates of the Planalto Palace.

Besides França, among those who have pressured him to recognize Lula’s victory as soon as possible and thus «save» some of his already battered political credit are the former Minister of Defense, General Walter Braga Netto, who aspires to be his vice-president in these elections, and the Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria.

His allies have asked Bolsonaro to publicly declare his gratitude to the more than 58 million Brazilians who voted for him this Sunday and as it is not ruled out that he may run in the 2016 elections, they have stressed to him the need to recognize the result as soon as possible.

This Sunday Lula da Silva was again elected president of Brazil after winning in a tight and convulsive election with 50.9 percent of the votes, ahead of Bolsonaro who got 49.1 percent.
