The Carrefour supermarket chain has decided to withdraw from «all points of sale» in Italy «all sharp objects» after an employee stabbed five people — one of whom ended up dying — with a knife from the store itself on Thursday.
The incident took place on the outskirts of Milan, in a shopping center in Assago. The company will keep the store closed this Friday as a sign of respect for the fatal victim, an employee identified as Luis Fernando Ruggieri, of Bolivian origin, and minutes of silence will be observed in centers throughout the country, according to the AdnKronos agency.
Carrefour Italy has explained that already on Thursday evening a psychological support cell was activated and has stressed to help in «everything possible» to the victims, as well as the authorities. The alleged perpetrator is a 46-year-old worker who is said to have mental health problems.
The Italian Public Prosecutor’s Office is examining alleged crimes of murder and attempted murder, according to Rai channel. Among the injured is Spanish footballer Pablo Marí, a Monza player, who was shopping at the time of the attack.
