Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Thursday that those responsible for the «atrocious» attack on the Shah Cheragh mosque in the city of Shiraz, which left fifteen dead and dozens wounded, «will be punished» and appealed for national unity to fight the «traitors».
Khamenei pointed out that while those responsible will be punished for the «atrocious crime» committed against this religious center located in the southwest of Iran, he warned that «the pain» and «desecration» caused cannot be compensated until «the root of the problem» is tackled and «wise and decisive» measures are taken.
«We all have duties in dealing with the incendiary enemy and its treacherous and ignorant agents. From security agencies and the judiciary, to activists in the field of thought and propaganda, to the beloved people, we must be united against those who despise human life,» he said.
Jameini, who offered his condolences to the victims, said he is confident that Iran and its institutions will succeed in defeating this «malicious plot» orchestrated by the enemies, according to his speech published by the Iranian Mehr News Agency.
At least 15 people have been killed and 40 others injured after the attack on Wednesday night on the Shah Cheragh mosque, an attack claimed shortly after by Islamic State. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi condemned the attack and vowed to punish those responsible.
