Iran responds to EU with sanctions against media and MEPs, among them Zarzalejos and Tertsch

The Iranian government has carried out its threat and approved new sanctions against the EU, a blacklist that includes European media and also MEPs, including the Spanish Javier Zarzalejos, of the PP, and Hermann Tertsch, of VOX.

Tehran has already warned that it would respond reciprocally if the EU-27 approved punishments for the death of the young Mahsa Amini, who died after being arrested for violating the Islamic dress code.

The Foreign Ministry, which has said it will act against individuals and entities that support violence and encourage unrest, on Wednesday urged the EU and member state governments not to meddle in matters that would be internal The list includes companies and also several media outlets, including the Persian-language affiliates of Germany’s Deutsche Welle and France’s RFI, as well as heads of the ‘Bild’ newspaper, according to official Iranian media, which also singled out French and German politicians.

In the associative field, Tehran includes the International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) and its president, the Spanish Alejo Vidal Quadras, while it charges the group of MEPs who make up the Friends of a Free Iran, headed by Zarzalejos.

The measure implies the confiscation of all assets that these persons and entities may have under Iranian sovereignty, as well as travel bans, as the Government has recalled in its note.
