Ukrainian authorities claimed Tuesday to have intercepted twelve drones launched by Russian forces in the airspace of the capital, Kyiv, with no reports of casualties or material damage so far.
»Update on the attack with ‘Shahed’ — a type of Iranian-made kamikaze drone — against the capital. In total, twelve enemy drones of this type have been detected and destroyed by air defense forces in Kyiv airspace,» Kyiv region governor Serhiy Popko said via Telegram.
Iran has branded as »psychological warfare» the accusations against Tehran for allegedly sending drones to Russia for use in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine, which it has rejected and has circumscribed to the military cooperation between the two countries prior to the outbreak of the conflict, unleashed on February 24, 2022 on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On the other hand, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army has indicated that 570 Russian military personnel have died in combats registered during the last 24 hours and has raised to more than 171,700 the total number of soldiers »liquidated» since the beginning of the invasion.
He also stated that 3,602 tanks, 2,653 artillery systems, 277 air defense systems, 305 aircraft, 291 helicopters, 2,235 drones, 911 cruise missiles, 18 vessels, 5,502 vehicles and fuel tanks and 287 pieces of »special equipment» have been destroyed so far.
Russia has not provided data on casualties in the conflict since September, when Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed the deaths of 5,937 servicemen. The Russian news portal Mediazona puts the total number of deaths at 18,023 – including 1,249 during the last 15 days – figures it considers «corroborated» through publicly available data, a work it carries out together with the British television channel BBC.
