Intelligence services have indicated on Tuesday that Russian forces have suffered »heavy losses» of armored vehicles as part of their operation to try to encircle the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka, located in the Donetsk region (east).
»Over the past few days, Russia has continued to prioritize an operation attempting to encircle the town of Avdiivka in Donetsk. However, Russian forces have made only minimal progress at a cost of heavy losses in armored vehicles,» they have noted, according to a series of messages published by the British Ministry of Defence through its account on the social network Twitter.
Thus, they have explained that »the Russian 10th Tank Regiment has probably lost a large proportion of its tanks trying to encircle Avdiivka from the south», before detailing that this regiment »is part of the Third Army Corps, the first major formation created by Russia to support the invasion in Ukraine since August 2022».
»Numerous open source accounts suggest that the Third Army Corps has been especially shaken by problems of poor discipline and low morale. Despite the likely period of training in Belarus, the formation still appears to show limited combat effectiveness,» they noted.
On the other hand, British intelligence services have stated that »the losses of the 10th Tank Regiment have probably been largely due to frontal assaults with tactical errors similar to those carried out in other failed armored attacks recently carried out by Russia, such as those executed around Vuhledar».
