At least 33 people were injured Wednesday after a ship capsized in the dry dock at the Edinburgh shipyard, local authorities said.
The accident was caused by strong winds and was described as »terrifying for those on board,» Councillor Adam McVey tweeted.
The Scottish emergency service reported that 21 people had to be taken to hospital and 12 were treated in the port itself, in the district of Leith.
Police have asked everyone to avoid approaching the scene to allow the emergency services to gain access without any problems.
The images that have spread through social networks show the ship of more than 3,000 tons and 76 meters long tilted at 45 degrees.
The ship belonged since October 2022 to the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center and was operated by Oceaneering International.
It had previously been used for deep-water searches for shipwrecks and war graves, including the discovery of the World War II ship USS Indianapolis, until it was purchased by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
Allen died in 2018 and donated it for scientific use, but it had not been used until now.
