Canada’s Defense Minister Anita Anand has revealed that the flying object shot down Saturday in the Yukon region of northern Canada was «a small cylindrical object.»
She also explained that the device was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet, about 12.2 kilometers, and that it was shot down due to the risk it posed to civil aviation at 15.40 hours (21.40 Spanish peninsular time) about 161 kilometers from the border with Alaska, reports the Canadian public television, the CBC.
Government sources quoted by the CBC itself have indicated that the first alert about the presence of the object arrived on Friday night, when it was still flying over the U.S. region of Alaska.
On Saturday it entered the Yukon and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ordered it to be shot down. It was a U.S. F-22 fighter that fired on the object and shot it down.
«I want to assure the people of the Yukon that at no time was their safety at risk,» said Yukon Chief Minister Ranj Pillai. «I want to commend the premier for acting decisively to protect the people of the Yukon and all Canadians,» he added.
