Turkish authorities announced Tuesday the deployment of some 28,000 security forces personnel to the areas in the southeast of the country most affected by the earthquakes, which have left more than 5,000 dead on Turkish and Syrian soil.
Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has indicated that 18,000 members of the Turkish Gendarmerie from all over the country will be deployed to the area, as well as 10,000 security forces personnel.
In relation to possible looting in the aftermath of the earthquakes, Soylu explained that «isolated incidents of this type» have been recorded, but affirmed that «beyond that, no such acts are taking place in Turkey».
Thus, he defended that the government «is doing everything possible to coordinate with all parties that want to help in collaboration with the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) regardless of their political sign».
