U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will travel next Thursday to Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference on the anniversary of the war in Ukraine.
The meeting, which will be attended by dozens of heads of state and government, will take place between February 16 and 18. It will be the second time that Harris attends as a U.S. representative, since in 2022 he participated together with the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
«On the eve of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the vice president’s engagements in Munich will demonstrate transatlantic unity and resolve, U.S. global leadership, and our enduring commitment to support Ukraine,» reads a White House statement.
Harris will deliver a speech on the sidelines of the conference, and will meet with foreign leaders, actions she sees as a way to continue the country’s «intense diplomatic engagement» «with allies and partners regarding the war in Ukraine, as well as other regional and global issues,» the missive reads.
The conference, established in 1963, usually includes numerous informal and private meetings between politicians. Russia had been participating since the late 1990s, however, in 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin did not participate in the event, which took place less than a week before the invasion of Ukraine began.
