At least 48 militiamen and law enforcement officers of the Burmese military junta have been killed in the last three days during offensives launched across the country by the rebel group People’s Defense Force (PDF), the armed wing of the deposed former government.
In addition to casualties among the armed men of the military junta, there have also been deaths among the FDP, as well as among the civilian population, in the regions of Sagaing and Tanintharyi, reports the Burmese news portal The Irrawaddy.
Among these almost fifty casualties in the ranks of the army, about twenty took place this Monday in the municipality of Salingyi, in the region of Sagaing (center) after an ambush by the rebels on a platoon of 70 soldiers, according to the Ministry of Defense of the deposed Government of National Unity.
Burma has been mired in civil war since a military coup d’état on February 1, 2021. Since then, about 2,750 people have died at the hands of the repression by the military authorities and about 17,400 have been detained, according to figures from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners of Burma (AAPP).
