
King Felipe VI has held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló, in the framework of the acts on the occasion of the Transfer of Presidential Command to the President-elect of Brazil, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva.
Felipe VI landed this Sunday in Brasilia, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares. Upon his arrival, he was received by the Second Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz; the Spanish Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, María Del Mar Fernández-Palacios; and the Secretary for the Middle East, Europe and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Kenneth Félix Haczynski, among other personalities.
He then held a meeting at the residence of the Embassy of Spain in the Federative Republic of Brazil, where the monarch had the opportunity to greet the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of Spain in Brazil and a representation of the Spanish community.
After the meeting with the Spanish community, Felipe VI attended a lunch with the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and then went to the National Congress, where, accompanied by both ministers, he attended the solemn ceremony of the transfer of the Presidential Command, where a minute of silence was observed in memory of Edson Arantes do Nascimento «Pelé» and Benedict XVI, after which the inauguration of Lula da Silva as President of Brazil and Geraldo Alckmin as Vice President began.
The King, together with the rest of the heads of State and Government in attendance, went to the Planalto Palace. And after the speech of the Brazilian president-elect, the greeting with the King took place.
To end the day, on Sunday, January 1, His Majesty the King held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco.
On Monday, January 2, the monarch will hold a meeting with Luiz Lula da Silva at the Itamaraty Palace and, at the end of the meeting, he will travel to the Brasilia Air Base, from where he will begin his return trip to Spain.
