
The German police have confirmed the arrest and subsequent death of the perpetrator of a kidnapping in a shopping mall in the city of Dresden, in which the released citizens were finally unharmed.
Initially, the city’s security authorities acknowledged that the situation was confusing and proceeded to clear the shopping center and adjacent areas, as well as a Christmas market also in the vicinity.
After finally being able to contact the kidnapper by telephone, the police confirmed the arrest and subsequent death of the kidnapper, a man in his 40s who may be suffering from some form of mental illness.
While the operation was still underway, the police confirmed the death of a woman in an apartment block. The main suspect would be her son, who would also be responsible for the kidnapping in the shopping center.
Subsequently, security authorities said they were investigating an uninjured shooting at the Ammonhof office building, where the Radio Dresden newsroom is located, which could also be linked to the kidnapping.
