Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said Monday that his country would consider accepting German Patriot defense systems offered by Germany if they are not finally delivered to Ukraine, although he reiterated that his neighboring country has more urgency for this type of weaponry.

«Yes, we will consider such a variant, of course, but we would like to point out that no one wants to acquire equipment to keep it unused,» the Polish head of government said when asked at a press conference about the possibility that Germany would refuse the option of delivering such weaponry to Ukraine, Pap agency reported.

For Morawiecki, the delivery of the air defense systems to Kiev would prevent more people from being killed by bombs also in the western part of the country, since Russian troops launch missiles every day on cities such as Lviv, Lutsk or Ivano-Frankivsk.

In this connection, the Polish Prime Minister stressed to Germany that the best use of the weapons would be to defend the Ukrainian skies, since, in this way, «they will also serve to defend Polish skies».

Referring to the missile that fell on Polish territory in mid-November in the city of Przewodow, Morawiecki remarked that the event took place because the Ukrainian air defense «most probably» failed to explode a Russian missile.

«So that’s where this weapon will serve best,» Morawiecki pointed out, as reported by the aforementioned media.

The Polish Defense Ministry has requested to transfer the defensive armament to Ukrainian territory, after Germany offered this material following the impact of a missile two weeks ago in Prezwodow, near the Ukrainian border, in which two civilians were killed.

Western powers have indicated that it could be a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile used for defense, while Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski maintains that it was a Russian missile, although he cannot explain with complete certainty what happened in the incident.
