The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has indicated that during last week’s meetings with his peers from Ecuador, Chile and Colombia; Guillermo Lasso, Gabriel Boric and Gustavo Petro, respectively, he did not address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

«We did not talk about the war between Russia and Ukraine. They already know that Mexico’s position is the peaceful solution to that war,» Lopez Obrador acknowledged on Monday, as reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘La Jornada’.

In this context, the Mexican president took the opportunity to reiterate his position to reach a peaceful solution, which involves the mediation of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Pope Francis.

«We want dialogue, we think that this is the best way out, what is most convenient and I am optimistic. I repeat, I think that a negotiated and peaceful solution will be sought, and the peoples of Europe, and certainly of Ukraine and Russia, are asking for it,» he said.

The presidents of Colombia, Chile and Ecuador visited Mexico last week on the occasion of a summit of the Pacific Alliance which, however, had been suspended due to the absence of the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, who was also due to take over the leadership of the organization.

López Obrador and his South American counterparts discussed other issues, such as the inflation affecting almost the entire international community, precisely because of the war in Ukraine.

DIALOGUE IN VENEZUELA Regarding the political conflict in Venezuela, López Obrador also celebrated on Monday that both the government and the opposition have agreed to resume dialogues to deal with the instability in the South American country.

«We celebrate that talks between the opposition and the Venezuelan government have already begun, and it seems good. I don’t know more, but I celebrate it,» said President López Obrador.
