The meeting held this Saturday between representatives of the truckers and the Chilean Executive at the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, have been extended throughout Saturday without reaching an agreement on the sixth day of the truckers’ strike.
The demonstrators are demanding a reduction in fuel prices for four months and that during that time a special price stabilization mechanism be developed for the truckers’ union.
However, the Government’s proposal reduces the freezing of diesel prices to three months and to allocate 1,500 dollars (the same amount in euros) to the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (MEPCO), so the negotiation has stalled, according to the news portal ‘Soy Chile’.
Nor has a new date been set to continue negotiations while there are 51 active pockets of protests, 48 of them permanent and three with partial roadblocks.
The Undersecretary of Interior has informed that 16 people have already been arrested in the framework of these protests in the regions of Coquimbo, Arica and Parinacota, Antofagasta, Tarapacá and Acnud.
