The Iranian government has stated that it will take «reciprocal» measures to the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to adopt a resolution criticizing Tehran for its «lack of cooperation», which the Iranian authorities blame on «political purposes».
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Naser Kanani, has stressed that the Executive will respond to «unconstructive measures», although he has stated that Tehran will maintain its «constructive interaction» with those who want to choose this path, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.
«Iran’s actions are a response of the recent resolution of the IAEA Board of Governors, a resolution unfortunately issued after the political action of the United States and three European countries,» he criticized, before stressing that these countries «imposed» the resolution through «political pressure.»
Thus, he pointed out that «the details of Iran’s measures will be notified to the IAEA», before reiterating that «Iran has the most transparent peaceful nuclear program», as reported by the Mehr news agency. «It has the largest number of facilities under the agency’s supervision and the largest number of IAEA inspections,» he explained.
«Therefore, it is hoped that political actions in connection with Iran’s constructive cooperation with the agency will be avoided and cooperation will be allowed to continue,» said Kanani, who stressed that the «actions of these four countries show that they still want to affect technical activities between Iran and the IAEA through political posturing.»
The text, proposed by the United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany, was supported by 26 of the 35 members that make up the IAEA Board of Governors. China and Russia opposed the measure, while at least five countries abstained. The resolution criticizes Iran for its lack of cooperation with the agency’s investigation into traces of uranium found at at least three of its facilities.
