UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed Tuesday that he will attend the climate summit in Egypt (COP27), after news of his absence led the opposition and NGOs to question his commitment to the fight against climate change.
Downing Street attributed his initial absence to scheduling issues, which it qualified late last week to state that nothing was finalized. Finally, Sunak himself tweeted on Tuesday that he will go to the Egyptian city of Sharm el Sheikh.
«No long term prosperity without action on climate change. There is no energy security without investment in renewables,» said the British leader, who confirmed that he has reversed his «initial decision» to «not go» to the summit.
