Five military personnel were killed Saturday in a shooting incident at the Evangelista military base in Cagayan, Oro City, Philippines, the Army said.
One of the dead, Johmar Villabito, started shooting at other soldiers until he was finally shot by Mark Anthony Aguinid and Josiah Estrada, according to the ‘Phil Star’ newspaper.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning and the names of the victims have not been released at the moment, said 4th Infantry Division spokesman Francisco Garello Jr.
«Four of our soldiers have been killed and one more has been wounded. The suspect used an M-16 rifle and shot the victims while they were sleeping,» Garello Jr. told reporters.
The victims were stationed at the 4th Infantry Division Service Headquarters under the command of Major General Wilbur Mamawag. The motive of the attacker is not yet known, although the Philippine press speculates that a possible romantic relationship was involved.
