U.S. and South Korean Defense Ministers Lee Jong Sup and Lloyd Austin, respectively, met Tuesday in Seoul to address the threat posed by North Korea to security in the region.
The talks have taken place as the countries seek to bolster their containment capabilities as Pyongyang develops its ballistic and nuclear program. The ministers have indicated that «on their agenda are possible steps to be taken to enhance U.S. credibility» on issues precisely related to containment and de-escalation.
However, this also includes possible actions to «defend allies» if necessary, including against nuclear attacks, according to the Yonhap news agency.
The two also discussed joint military exercises planned for next month, although they are also scheduled to hold talks on a possible increase in aid to Ukraine in the context of the Russian invasion.
