Peru’s Foreign Minister, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, will hold a meeting next week with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in order to address the political crisis facing the country.
This has been informed by the Peruvian diplomacy itself in a statement, in which it has detailed that the Foreign Minister will meet with the United Nations on December 20. The meeting will serve to «exchange points of view» on the priorities of Human Rights with the current situation that Peru is going through.
The meeting will take place after at least 20 people have lost their lives in just over a week following clashes between police and demonstrators participating in protests taking place throughout the country.
Following these deaths, Gervasi issued a statement Friday afternoon «deeply» regretting the deaths and extending his «most sincere condolences» to the families affected.
In addition, the Foreign Minister reiterated her government’s commitment to fulfilling its international human rights obligations.
