
Authorities in Jordan have «temporarily» banned the social network TikTok for its role in spreading violence in the context of protests against rising fuel prices, which resulted in the death of a senior police officer on Friday.
The Jordanian Cyber Crimes Unit has justified its decision in view of the «misuse of the platform by its users in glorifying and spreading acts of violence and calls for chaos», as reported by the Petra news agency.
In this regard, he explained that they have had to take this measure due to the lack of cooperation from the social network, which has not solved or stopped this type of behavior, and has not been «concerned about the promotion and production of videos from outside Jordan».
Finally, the cyber authority said in a statement, reported by the agency, that the competent authorities will hold accountable those who disseminate hate speech in accordance with Jordanian law.
