The Danish Social Democrats, Liberals and Moderates have agreed on a political alliance to form a new government in the country, after weeks of negotiations following the election day held on November 1.
The leader of the Social Democratic party and acting prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, announced on Tuesday night to Queen Margrethe the agreement to form the cabinet between her party, the Liberals and the Moderates. «These are the three parties that have agreed to come together and take responsibility,» she said.
«Almost six weeks ago I was given the task of investigating whether it would be possible to form a broad government in Denmark. And tonight I informed her majesty the queen that yes (I would form it),» Frederiksen has told the press, as picked up by the DR channel.
The new Executive will be presented on Thursday, however, this Wednesday the leaders of the three parties will present the policy of the new government at a press conference, reported the ‘acting premier’.
Frederiksen, who described the new alliance as «politically very competent», said that they have set «great ambitions» to ensure greater employment and climate measures.
«What characterizes this government? Greater cooperation, that’s what we want to have together in political terms. It will also be a working community,» he explained before qualifying that «the fact that different parties join the government does not mean that they agree on everything.»
The left-wing coalition led by Mette Frederiksen won the elections held on November 1 in the country with 87 seats and more than 49 percent of the vote, which has allowed the president to remain in government.
After exit polls predicted that neither the left-wing nor the right-wing bloc would have the possibility of reaching a majority, the final vote count gave the victory to the left, as reported by the public channel TV2.
