A 17-year-old girl has died in Brazil after being shot after a fight broke out in a shopping mall during a World Cup soccer match between the Brazilian and Croatian teams.
According to local media reports, several groups clashed inside a shop in North Shopping and when the teenager and the group she was with left the building towards a nearby sports center, a vehicle surprised them and fired several shots, fatally wounding the girl with two hits to the lung and injuring her friend in the chest.
A young man of the same age was arrested as a suspect, although when he was taken to the police station to make a statement, he denied his participation in the crime, as detailed by the Civil Police and reported by G1.
The authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the facts, but suspect that those involved are members of rival groups linked to drug trafficking.
Deputy Edson Winning, who is investigating the case, said that the target of the shooting was a friend of the cousins, who was with them at the time of the incident and who had already had a fight with other young people two weeks ago. The 21-year-old male was injured during the fight, but is out of danger.
