U.S. President Joe Biden has celebrated the victory of the Democratic candidate in the senatorial elections in the state of Georgia, noting that voters «have defended American democracy» against the aspirations of former President Donald Trump.
Biden said on Twitter that the victory of Reverend Raphael Warnock implies a rejection of the «ultra» ideology associated with Trump. «More importantly, it brings a good man back to the Senate. He’s here for another six years,» he has emphasized.
Warnock prevailed in the runoff election against Republican Herschel Walker, a former soccer player and Trump ally. With this result, the Democrats will control 51 of the 100 seats in the Senate, so they will not have to rely on the tie-breaking vote of the vice president, Kamala Harris.
