The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, announced Thursday that he has extended until February 28, 2023 the terrorist and cyber alert states in force in the country since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Morawiecki said he signed the regulation to extend the emergency regime in view of the «threat» posed by the war in the neighboring country, according to information from the Polish Government Security Center.

Officials have noted that these regimes include various states of alert, especially for Polish energy infrastructure facilities located outside the country.

The alert level is at the second of four possible levels and is generally introduced when there is an increased and predictable risk of a terrorist act. This means that the intelligence services have information about the potential threat and require increased vigilance on the part of the state.

The Police, Border Guard and Military Gendarmerie can carry long-barrelled weapons and bulletproof vests, as well as inspect vehicles, search individuals and raid public buildings in areas considered «under threat» to ensure the safety of the personnel concerned.

Polish anti-terrorism law states that in the event of a terrorist attack or imminent terrorist attack, the government can introduce one of four levels, called ‘Alpha’, ‘Bravo’, ‘Charlie’ and ‘Delta’.
