Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky reported on Sunday the death of a sapper working on the demining of the Kherson region, recently seized from Russian forces by the Ukrainian Army.
Four other people were injured in the explosion, Zelensky explained in his usual evening message on social networks.
«Please do not forget that the situation in the Kherson region remains very dangerous. First of all, there are mines. Unfortunately one of our sappers has died and four more have been injured while clearing mines,» he said, while asking to notify the authorities as soon as a suspicious object is detected.
Zelenski emphasized that they are already working to restore basic services in the 226 population centers of Kherson, where more than 100,000 people live.
«We are restoring communications, Internet, television. We are doing everything we can to restore electricity and water supply. We will restore ambulance service and medicine. Of course we will recover the work of the authorities, of the police, of some private companies. Our presence will be felt. It will be felt that there is life,» he stressed.
Meanwhile, the detention of Russian military, mercenaries and the «neutralization of saboteurs» continues in the more than 4,500 square kilometers recovered in the last week on the right bank of the Dnieper River.
In addition, Zelensky has announced that he will address the G-20 summit next Tuesday. «We are actively preparing an important week for Ukraine. A diplomatic week,» he stressed.
The leaders of the 20 leading economies of the world are meeting in Indonesia and «our position will be represented,» Zelenski has noted in his speech.
«We will answer many of the questions they are asking us now. Public answers, which will be heard by all our compatriots, all our allies, all those who support us,» he added.
