At least four Yemeni military personnel and two civilians have been killed as a result of an attack by the Huthi insurgency in Lahj province in the south of the country.

Yemeni military sources confirmed that the attack took place last Friday and was carried out with a guided missile against a military vehicle carrying troops and residents in the town of Qadash, in the north of the province.

The attack also left a large number of people wounded, according to the source, without giving further details, in statements reported Sunday by Arab News.

The pro-independence forces in the south, allied with the Yemeni government, have launched an operation to find those responsible.

Also in the last few hours, the death of another Yemeni soldier was reported in a Huthi ambush on Saturday in the same province, this time in the disputed town of Tur al Bahah.

The war in Yemen pits the internationally recognized government, now represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and supported by the aforementioned international coalition, against the Huthis, backed by Iran. The Huthis control the capital, Sana’a, and areas in the north and west of the country.

The United Nations special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, is trying to bring the parties closer together to relaunch the peace process, after the expiration in October of the truce agreed in April to mark the beginning of the month of Ramadan and subsequently extended on several occasions.
