At least six Cameroonian military personnel were killed on Monday by an anti-personnel mine explosion in the vicinity of the town of Hiteré, located in the Far North region, according to authorities.

Security sources quoted by the Cameroonian news portal ActuCameroun specified that the bomb exploded as an army vehicle passed by in the locality, located in the department of Mayo Tsanaga.

For the moment there is no claim of responsibility for the attack, which took place about a month after the death of three soldiers by the explosion of another bomb in the passage of a convoy of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) in the same province.

The Far North Region is one of the most affected by insecurity in the country, since the Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA), operate there, especially in areas located in the Lake Chad basin.
