An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 on the open Richter scale has shaken New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands on Thursday, with no reports of casualties or damage so far.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of New Zealand has indicated that the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 22 kilometers, has not raised the tsunami warning, so it has ruled out the threat of tsunami.

According to the information gathered by the New Zealand newspaper ‘The New Zealand Herald’, the earthquake took place about 1,000 kilometers away from the north island of the country.

New Zealand is located in the »Ring of Fire» of the Pacific, where about 90 percent of the world’s earthquakes occur.
