Arrested Sunday afternoon, brothers Ramon and Andres Perez Hoyos have admitted in court to being behind the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, who was killed in May 2022 while on his honeymoon in Colombia.
«I want to apologize to Dr. Pecci’s family. In any case, asking for forgiveness is not going to remedy, but if the situation has hurt me, I ask for forgiveness from everyone in the courtroom, from Mr. Pecci’s wife and family,» Ramón Pérez Hoyos said during his hearing.
His brother Andrés also did the same and apologized to the family. «I know it was a very big mistake, I have no words to express my apologies to the Pecci family, especially to his pregnant wife, I am very sorry and I want to apologize to them from the bottom of my heart», he said.
The fact that both recognized their participation in Pecci’s death and accepted the charges could benefit them with a reduction of up to 50 percent with respect to the initial sentence and even more if they decide to collaborate with Justice.
During the hearing, the prosecutor of the case, Mario Burgos, has exposed that the two offered 1,500 million Colombian pesos (more than 295,500 euros) to carry out the crime, motivated in revenge for the work of Pecci, as revealed by the alleged ideologue of the whole affair, Francisco Luis Correa Galeano.
«The two of them were the ones who gave the order. They are the two intellectual persons of killing prosecutor Pecci because they were the ones who gave the money,» explained Burgos.
Five other people have been arrested, four of them already sentenced to 23 years in prison for their involvement in this crime committed on May 10 on the island of Baru, in the Colombian Caribbean, when he was on his honeymoon with his wife, Claudia Aguilera.
