The Kremlin has stated that it has not received any proposal to declare a ceasefire in Ukraine to coincide with Christmas, although it has made it clear that this possibility is not on the agenda of a government that continues to justify its offensive on the need to protect the local population.
«No proposals have been received from anyone», the main spokesman of the Russian Presidency, Dimitri Peskov, told the media when questioned about the possibility of a truce at least temporary, during the next few weeks, reports the Interfax agency.
Peskov pointed out that the main task of the Russian Armed Forces is to «protect» the populations of the occupied areas and acknowledged that the situation in the Donetsk region, one of the four that Moscow now claims as its own, is «difficult».
«The special military operation continues,» the spokesman added, using the Russian authorities’ terms for the invasion launched on February 24 on the orders of President Vladimir Putin.
