At least six Islamic State jihadists have been killed, three of them by a farmer who eventually succumbed to jihadist gunfire, during an assault repelled Saturday by the army and the population against a village in the north-central Saladin province.
The jihadists attacked around noon on Saturday a village in the municipality of Shirgat, but were repelled by the second battalion of the 91st Brigade of the Iraqi Army, with the help of civilians and Hashdi tribesmen.
«At least six Islamic State fighters were killed in the assault,» the Iraqi Army’s security media cell confirmed in a statement carried by Rudaw news agency.
Military spokesman Mohamed Shaykh of the 91st brigade confirmed that the farmer was the first to open fire on the jihadists the moment he saw them approaching the village.
The intervention of the Iraqi Army killed the other three jihadists, two of whom took their own lives.
