The countries that make up the G20 have approved on Wednesday a final declaration stating that «the majority of members strongly condemn the war in Ukraine» and «demand Russia’s full and unconditional withdrawal from Ukrainian territory».

The document, published by the bloc’s communications system, indicates that member countries «reiterate their national positions expressed in other forums» and «deplore in the strongest terms Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.»

«Most members strongly condemn the war in Ukraine and underline that it is causing immense human suffering and exacerbating existing fragilities in the global economy, constricting growth, increasing inflation, disrupting supply chains, raising energy and food insecurity and elevating risks to financial stability,» the text reads.

However, the document notes that «there are other different views and assessments of the situation and the sanctions», reflecting the divisions within the organization, which includes Russia and China.

«Recognizing that the G20 is not the forum for resolving security issues, we acknowledge that security issues can have significant consequences for the global economy,» says the document, which adds that «it is essential to respect international law and the multilateral system that safeguards peace and security.»

In this regard, it notes that «this includes upholding all the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and respecting humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians and infrastructure in armed conflict».

«The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible. Peaceful conflict resolution, efforts to address crises, dialogue and diplomacy and dialogue are vital. The current era must not be one of war,» highlights the G20 document following the summit in Indonesia in recent days.

On the other hand, it applauds the agreement between Russia and Ukraine for the export of grain from Ukrainian ports, signed in July after the mediation of the United Nations and Turkey, and emphasizes that it helps to «ease tension and avoid global food insecurity and hunger in developing countries».

«We stress the importance of its full, proper and continued implementation by all relevant actors, as well as the calls of the UN Secretary General (António Guterres) to continue these efforts by the parties,» he concludes.
