Two Syrian servicemen have been killed and three more wounded by an Israeli missile strike on a military base in Homs province, the Syrian government has said.
«Two soldiers have been martyred and three more have been wounded as a result of the impact of an Israeli missile on Shayrat military airport in Homs province,» the official Syrian news agency, SANA, has reported.
The strike came from the direction of Tripoli and Hermel in northern Lebanon, according to a military source quoted by the news agency. Syrian anti-aircraft defenses have repelled the «Israeli missile aggression» and shot down several shells, the source said.
However, the attack caused these two deaths and wounded three more military personnel, as well as «material losses», added the source quoted by SANA.
The Israeli Armed Forces have not commented on what happened as they always do with such airstrikes against Syrian targets.
A few days ago a convoy was attacked by Israeli missiles near the Syrian-Iraqi border and ten people were killed, including several Iranians. The convoy was carrying fuel and possibly weaponry between Iran and Lebanon.
Israel generically acknowledges attacks to prevent the delivery of Iranian weapons to the Lebanese militia-party Hezbollah, an ally of Tehran, but no concrete actions. It also maintains a precarious diplomatic balance between Russia, which effectively controls Syrian airspace, and its Western allies, which support Ukraine.
