The G7 foreign ministers on Monday reaffirmed their »strong support» for Ukraine, which also includes »intensifying, coordinating and implementing» sanctions against Russia, which they called on to withdraw »immediately» all its troops from Ukrainian territory.

The ministers devoted one of the sessions of the meeting organized in Japan, in which the European Union also participates, to talk about Ukraine. A hundred minutes of forum in which the participants agreed that »it is important to maintain unity», according to a communiqué issued by the Japanese government.

This unity also includes preventing the »evasion of sanctions», looking for possible loopholes in the application of international punishments and avoiding that weapons from third countries reach Russia for their later use in the war in Ukraine.

In addition, for the G7, the nuclear rhetoric of Russian President Vladimir Putin is »unacceptable», so they have also condemned the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, a key partner of the Kremlin since the beginning of the invasion more than a year ago.

The head of Japanese diplomacy, Yoshimasa Hayashi, as host, reiterated the group’s »firm» rejection of any initiative aimed at »changing the ‘status quo’ by force», for the sake of »an international order based on respect for the rule of law», reports Kiodo news agency.
