The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has assured again this Monday that he wants to run in the 2024 presidential elections with the intention of occupying the Oval Office for a second term, although he did not specify the date of the announcement of his candidacy.

I plan to run, but we are not yet ready to announce it (officially),» he said in an interview, along with his wife Jill Biden, to host Al Roker during the Today show, broadcast on NBC News.

The tenant of the White House already assured the network in February that he would run in the elections, although at that time he did not confirm the date either. Among the possible delay of the announcement, it is thought that within the Democratic Party there are critical voices regarding his age, thus urging to look for younger profiles for the elections.

Biden, who is 80 years old, became in 2020 the oldest person to assume power in the United States and has previously indicated that he can maintain the same requirement in his post, citing the regular trips he makes both domestically and internationally.

Tradition establishes that whoever sits in the Oval Office does so for eight years, or at least aspires to do so, so the fact that the president resigned ‘motu proprio’ for reelection would be a milestone in American politics and could mark to some extent the path of alternative Democratic aspirants.
