At least six people have been killed in a suicide bombing near the headquarters of the Afghan Foreign Ministry in the country’s capital Kabul on Monday, the Taliban-installed authorities confirmed after taking control of the country in August 2021.

The spokesman of the Kabul Police, Jalid Zadran, has detailed in his account on the social network Twitter that the security forces have opened fire on a suicide bomber at a checkpoint located in the vicinity of the Ministry and has stressed that the agents have acted »before he reached his target».

Thus, he stressed that the attacker »activated his explosives» causing the death of »six civilians» and leaving several wounded, including three members of the Afghan security forces.

The non-governmental organization Emergency, which provides health services in Kabul, has indicated on Twitter that twelve wounded have arrived at its facilities, including a child, as well as the bodies of two of the victims.

At the moment no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although the jihadist group Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has carried out several attacks in recent months. ISKP, which considers the Taliban to be traitors to the orthodoxy of ‘sharia’ or Islamic law and advocates a much harsher interpretation, has been the target of a Taliban security campaign.
