The U.S. authorities have issued a security alert on Thursday for possible attacks in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and other cities in the country, for which reason it has called on its citizens to «exercise vigilance in places frequented by tourists and foreigners».
«Places frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya remain attractive targets for terrorists planning to carry out potentially imminent attacks,» said the U.S. Embassy in Kenya.
Thus, it has indicated in a statement published on its website that «terrorist groups could attack without warning against hotels, embassies, restaurants, shopping malls, markets, schools, police stations, places of worship and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists».
«The Government of Kenya has increased anti-terrorism patrols,» it stressed, before calling on its citizens to «review their security plans,» «be aware of the situation around them» and «monitor local means for updates.»
For his part, the spokesman of the Kenyan National Police, Resila Onyango, said in statements to the Kenyan newspaper ‘The Standard’ that there is no cause for alarm and stressed that the agents «remain vigilant».
