The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, announced on Monday the government’s intention to launch an economic aid plan for Ukraine valued at 1.3 billion euros per year for the next five years.

Store has pointed out that the delivery of this aid package valued at 75 billion Swedish kronor (about 6.7 billion euros) also lets Russia know that Norway and its Parliament will remain «united» and on Ukraine’s side for the duration of the hostilities, according to statements to ‘VG’.

The government’s plan was announced Monday pending Store’s meeting with the leaders of the political forces represented in the Storting, the Nordic country’s Parliament. «I wish that in this matter we can meet» and «the broad support for Ukraine among the Norwegian people will be reflected,» he hoped.

Store has highlighted how the Russian invasion of Ukraine has made many other countries, seemingly distant for historical reasons and other diversities, decide to put aside their possible differences and unite for their common security.

«I like to use the example of Norway and Estonia, which have completely different histories in relation to Russia, but are now seeking their own security together and in defense of our common values,» he has explained.

The 1.3 billion euros per year will be divided into humanitarian aid and military aid. In turn, the government is also working on a separate similar plan to help third countries that have been affected by the war in Ukraine, especially those whose food security depends on Ukrainian grain.

After learning of these intentions, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky thanked Norway on his Twitter profile for making a «significant» contribution to Ukraine’s «future victory» «over the aggressor».
