The plenary session of the Peruvian Congress will hold this Sunday an extraordinary plenary session to bring to the attention of the House the proceedings filed by the Attorney General of the Nation, Patricia Benavides, against Pedro Castillo and two former ministers.

The session will take place at 17.00 hours (local time) and this matter will be the only point of the day, and representatives may attend virtually or in person, according to Andina news agency.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed proceedings against the former head of the Council of Ministers, Betssy Chavez and the former Minister of the Interior, Willy Huerta, as well as former President Castillo.

According to the same media, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out «preliminary proceedings» against the three accused, who have the prerogative foreseen for high officials in the Peruvian Constitution.

The only item on the agenda is the official letter sent to the Parliament by the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, informing this power of the State about the proceedings that her office is carrying out against Castillo as well as against the former head of the Council of Ministers, Betssy Chavez, and the former Minister of the Interior, Willy Huerta.

For its part, the Prosecutor’s Office has detailed that the office that will be addressed on Sunday in the plenary «aims to guarantee the fundamental rights and the purpose of the criminal process».
