At least two people have been killed and two others injured Monday night in three stabbing attacks in several municipalities in the southwest of Brussels, Belgium.

At around 6 p.m. local time, a cyclist and a pedestrian were stabbed in the Anderlecht district of the Belgian capital. The victims did not know each other and the culprit fled, according to preliminary information gathered by the newspaper ‘La Libre’.

Both – aged 62 and 28 – have been injured, one of them in critical condition, and have been taken to hospitals, reports the Belgian portal Sudinfo.

A few minutes later, around 6.20 p.m., a second attack took place in the Saint-Gilles neighborhood, less than three kilometers away from Anderlecht, where a 20-year-old died after being stabbed in the neck.

Ten minutes later, 3.5 kilometers away, in the district of Molenbeek, another person was attacked with a knife and died as a result of his injuries, according to the local police, who said that the attacker was finally arrested.

The police forces of the three districts have assured that, «for the moment», it is not possible to establish an obvious link between the three cases.

At the moment, the authorities are looking for the perpetrators of the attacks in Saint-Gilles and Anderlecht. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the cases.
