Biden to announce in early 2023 whether he will ultimately run for the U.S. presidency

U.S. President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he will make a decision in early 2023 on whether he will officially run for re-election in the 2024 elections, while emphasizing that for now he intends to run for the presidency for a second time.

«I hope that Jill (the first lady) and I have a little time to sneak away for a week, between Christmas and Thanksgiving,» said the president during a press conference in which he assessed the preliminary results of the mid-term elections in the White House.

Biden reiterated that he is «very respectful» of destiny, delegating the decision to his family, from whom he expects support for his candidacy, according to a press release from the Presidency of the United States.

«I think they want me to run, but they’re going…we’re going to have discussions about it. And I don’t feel any rush one way or the other to make that judgment today,» the president said, detailing that he will probably make that decision with his family early next year.

Asked about an exit poll that indicates that two-thirds of the country’s voters believe that he should not run for president again, Biden joked about his age, a reason that many attribute to him as a problem for a possible recandidacy.

«But in any case, jokes aside, our intention is to run again. That has been our intention, regardless of the outcome of this election,» said the U.S. president.

«And the fact that we have won and the fact that the Democratic Party has surpassed everything that was expected and has done better than any presidency since (former President) John Kennedy is something that gives everyone a sigh of relief,» he added.

Biden said that the outcome of the mid-term elections, where the Republican Party did not do as well as the polls predicted, could serve as a bargaining chip for him to run for president in 2024.
