The Democratic senator from the U.S. state of New Hampshire, Maggie Hassan, will be revalidated after winning the race for the lower house seat against Republican Don Bolduc, an important victory for the Democratic Party due to the unpopularity of its candidate.
The New Hampshire seat helps the party of U.S. President Joe Biden move a step closer to controlling at least one of the two chambers, as the latest forecasts indicate that the Republican Party will take the House of Representatives, according to U.S. media reports.
Earlier this year, Hassan was considered one of the Democratic senators most likely to lose her seat, plagued by low economic indicators and the low approval rating of the country’s president.
For his part, the Republican candidate is a retired military man who defends former U.S. President Donald Trump’s conspiracy theory about electoral fraud in the 2020 presidential elections. In addition, he is also a staunch advocate of restrictions on the termination of pregnancy, a measure that is nonetheless unpopular in the state.
