The Republican governor for the U.S. state of New Hampshire, Chris Sununu, has said it would be «a terrible idea» for former U.S. President Donald Trump to announce his presidential candidacy before Christmas.
Asked in an interview on the CBS network about the possible electoral pull that could have Trump to present his candidacy for the Presidency before the mid-term elections – to be held this Tuesday – Sununu said that «it will have no effect» and that announcing such an event before Christmas «is a terrible idea».
«It will have no effect on anything, and I say that sincerely (…) We are all going to be very happy one way or another that the elections are over on Tuesday. Everybody is going to want to take a breather and re-engage with their families and deal with some really serious issues,» the New Hampshire governor said.
In this regard, he stressed that whether President Trump decides to run or not «is not going to make any difference,» as he predicts that up to a dozen more Republican candidates will run for the presidency.
However, Sununu has maintained that he does not believe that the current US president, Joe Biden, will run again in the 2024 elections, as he told the aforementioned network.
«I don’t think President Biden is going to run again. I think on both sides of the aisle there will be maybe a dozen individuals in the next 6 to 9 months who will decide to run,» he added.
