British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron held their first telephone conversation on Friday in which they agreed, among other points, on the need to continue working together to support Ukraine in the war with Russia.
In response to the war initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin and its consequences, Sunak and Macron have pledged to work together «to ensure a more stable energy future,» and this includes increased cooperation on nuclear energy.
In addition to the conflict in Ukraine, among the «wide range» of issues on which London and Paris agree, there are climate, defense and economic issues, and the interest of both in making the English Channel route «unviable» for human traffickers, for which they have promised to «strengthen» cooperation to prevent these «deadly crossings» from continuing to benefit organized crime.
Finally, the two men agreed to meet next year for a new summit between the United Kingdom and France, according to the Downing Street communiqué.
