Russian authorities have appealed to citizens planning to travel to Norway and asked them to «weigh the risks» of visiting the neighboring country, which in recent weeks has arrested several Russians for alleged espionage.
«We recommend that Russian citizens intending to visit Norway carefully weigh the risks when planning the trip and be prepared for the special interest of the Norwegian special services,» Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has warned.
Zakharova was responding to recent reports of arrests of Russian citizens for alleged espionage, in most cases for flying UAVs over restricted regions and photographing areas where it is forbidden.
«The Norwegian side has in no way indicated what can be photographed, what is not allowed, or whom, where and how it is allowed to photograph,» Zakharova lamented at a press conference, Russian news agency TASS reported.
Finally, Zakharova has denounced that these arrests take place in a context in which Oslo is deliberately fomenting the fear of the citizens in the face of alleged Russian espionage. «The hunt is declared for our citizens in Norway, the local population actively participates in it,» she warned.
